How to Set Up a Usage & Attitude (U&A) Study

Follow these steps to configure your U&A survey, qualify the right respondents, and launch a study that reveals how and why consumers use your category.

Updated over 3 months ago

A Usage & Attitude study is carefully structured but easy to set up in the platform. You provide your category, brands, target audience, and screening rules.

The system then handles survey setup, respondent sourcing, and reporting. Within a week, you get a full dashboard showing usage habits, journeys, barriers, motivators, and brand loyalty.

This guide walks you through setup step by step.

1. Project Details

  • Category to investigate → Enter the category you want to explore (e.g., carbonated soft drinks, online grocery, skincare).

  • Brands → Add your brand and up to 4 competitors for benchmarking. Your first 5 total brands are included. Additional competitors = +$1,000 each.

2. Target Audience

  • Sample size → Default is 300 respondents (baseline for reliable reads).

  • Location → Choose from 150+ countries, with the option to narrow to states, provinces, or cities.

  • Demographics → Add optional filters (age, gender, role, lifestyle traits).

  • Audience Difficulty (IR) → A live gauge shows feasibility of your target.

3. Screening Criteria

To ensure only qualified category users respond, you can set:

  • Minimum usage recency → e.g., “used in last 3 months”

  • Involvement level → e.g., “primary household purchaser”

  • Category familiarity → tailor screener to active users vs. occasional buyers

This ensures all responses come from real, relevant consumers.

4. Add‑Ons

Optional enhancements include:

  • Open‑text feedback → +$390 to capture detailed stories, frustrations, or last usage narratives.

  • Extra sample size → Scale beyond 300 respondents for more precision.

  • Custom segmentation → Add cuts or markets depending on your needs.

5. Review & Pricing

  • Base package = $2,990 for 300 qualified respondents.

  • Pricing scales with respondent count, competitor adds, or open‑text options.

  • Our team validates your category, targeting, and incidence before going live.

6. Launch & Reporting

Once confirmed:

  • Respondents are recruited via vetted panels and social sourcing.

  • All pass a 10‑step validation process (fraud checks, geo‑verification, duplicate IP, attention filters).

  • Results are delivered within 7 days in an interactive dashboard.

Your dashboard includes:

  • Usage patterns → heatmaps of frequency, contexts, and occasions

  • Purchase journeys → funnel and driver charts

  • Barriers and motivators → ranked blockers and triggers with impact charts

  • Brand usage and loyalty → awareness vs usage, loyalty ladder, openness to switch

  • Executive summary → key findings at a glance

You now have a clear path from briefing your category to receiving actionable insights on usage, attitudes, and growth levers.
